Message from President
Ushiki & Associates was started by former President/Patent Attorney, Kazuo Ushiki in Nagaoka-shi, Niigata in 1933. Later, in 1945 when the Nagaoka Air Raid turned the city into a sea of fire, Kazuo Ushiki’s family of eight managed to survive and move to Niigata-shi of the present day while pulling a two-wheeled cart with clients’ patent files stacked therein. Our relationships with foreign associates began when the present President/Patent Attorney Mamoru Ushiki first represented a client in applying for a U.S. patent through a local representative in America in the day and age where only Telex was available. Since then, we have also been able to establish an office in Kanda, Tokyo, and move to Toranomon, Tokyo up to the present date. In our 90 year history, we have been successful in not only cultivating strong relationships of trust with companies, universities and independent inventors in Niigata region, but also working closely with companies, universities and independent inventors in the capital region due to the fact that our office in Toranomon, Tokyo is a seven minute walk to the Patent Office.
While meeting foreign associates in person used to be difficult, our office in Toranomon, Tokyo has enabled our foreign associates to easily visit and consult us, and even hold seminars with us and our clients. This has allowed us to build favorable relationships with even more foreign associates. Our goal has been and will always be assisting our clients (e.g., companies, universities and independent inventors) in all aspects of intellectual property. We are looking forward to hearing from you regarding: preliminary patentability searches; applications; procedures for acquisition of rights (e.g., trial/appeal examiner interviews, litigations rescinding trial decisions and trials/appeals); rights protection; responses to rights violations; responses to warnings and litigations; conclusions of advisory contracts; foreign applications; cost estimation requests; and anything related to intellectual property.
